Looking back to my native Bulgaria, these etchings explore the narrative of identity and place through images rooted at once in cultural specificity and in the romantic–nostalgic of cultural difference. Employing the language of Bulgarian folk and fairy tales, without making use of actual common stories, characters, themes or motifs, the images function as narrative tableaux - an invitation to the viewer to construct her or his own telling.
